Velma Johnston, affectionately known as Wild Horse Annie, was a leader in the struggle to protect mustangs and burros. Through her leadership, the International Society for the Protection of Mustangs and Burros was able to help pass Federal Legislation that gave these animals some much-needed relief from death or harassment on public land since 1971 (PL 92-195).  || International Society for the Protection of Mustangs and Burros ||
